Greenville, SC natives Will and Sherry Pelletier utilize an unconventional technique and colorful stains to create striking abstract works on wood. Will calls on his technical expertise to direct high-voltage electricity into the wood, creating random patterns that elicit a visceral response from the viewer. Rather than cover them, Sherry's paint technique enhances the wood's natural grain and beauty of the burn patterns.

DEADLY PROCESS
50,000 volts of electricity generate the distinctive burned patterns in the wood as it travels along the wood grain in an effort to connect with the opposite energy point. The energy, largely uncontrollable, forges its own unique path through the wood.
Cleaning and Curing
After completing the burning process, the wood is scrubbed under running water to eliminate the charred residue, revealing clean channels. Following thorough drying, the wood is finely sanded to achieve a smooth finish.
Inspiration
Taking inspiration from the burn patterns and wood grain, this piece is painted with water-based wood stains. It is then sealed with multiple layers of beeswax. After the wax hardens, the artwork is buffed and polished to achieve a glossy finish.
